In The cold july rain
Nobody talks about the rainy mornings in July.
The soothing, calm, serene sound of the rain while driving, and with the right music. It reminds you of everything beautiful. Always a great mood booster to start the day, even when you’ve got a war on your mind.
But this morning, it’s a different kinda rain.
As you’re driving, you come across this intersection without a sign. The challenge here is to choose the unknown path that will lead you to a greater place, a destination, or a home. Do you follow the gravel, unpaved road, that might cause some damages to the car and lead to a blow-out, or the highway? In which if you drive on that considerable speed, things might be okay, but if you do full throttle, and the rhythm takes over, you might risk everything.
This is why I dread every time I have to drive. That anxiety of having to deal with those crazy aggressive drivers that cut people off, turning on you without signaling, flashing their lights like they drive a Ferrari, when in fact it’s just some modified, used cars. What is so satisfying about that?
I would rather be the passenger, with a good driver, of course.
Real drivers know exactly how to please the car and the passenger. Somehow they have developed this special relationship with the car, like they already know if there is a high speeder coming, without seeing the car from behind. Always focusing on the present and never dwell on the past to create their own destiny. And if everything seems under control, they know that they are not driving fast enough.
But, they are afraid of the rain. When it rains, it’s unpredictable, they’re no longer in control of their wheels.
So, anyway.
No matter what, I need to reach that destination. And very soon I have to decide which intersection to choose. Should I follow my heart or follow the rules?
