To The Ones Who Dream Pt 2
// Sunset – The xx
LA roads, on a normal day. Gridlocked. But of course. Especially when you choose to drive on I-10 heading east to DTLA during rush hour. What’s not to love about LA’s infamous traffic, you must bring your A-game when driving in LA. I have learnt to appreciate my ‘alone time’ in the car, turn on a podcast or the Triple J playlist on Spotify, let Google Map predicts the arrival time and enjoy another beautiful blue-sky morning. And when the roads are busy, you could glance around and observe them Angelenos driving to work daily trying to make ends meet, they get distracted by their phones and don’t seem to be happy, each in the midst of their own inner thoughts, bearing an indistinct gaze.
Well, that’s not the case for Los Angeles today, during this Covid-19 pandemic. The entire city is on lockdown, as most businesses shut in DTLA, it would take approximately 20 minutes to get to the city of what would have been an hour. Yet, in the Westside, Californians feel that they’re entitled. They don’t seem to care much about social distancing. Venice beach is crowded with surfers, people sunbathing, playing volleyball, and those hipsters cycling on vintage road bikes. Ignorant. They just can’t resist the urge to be outside instead of staying at home.

All they care about is freedom and practicing “human rights”.
I blame entirely on the failure of the United Stated administration. The irresponsible clown has made it very clear that it cares more about the greatness of America, than humanity. The presidential election is still on track, in November, something I look forward to. Georgia and Ohio are among the states that have delayed their primaries but changing the election date would require an amendment in the federal constitution. I don’t expect much change from the election.
But, social norms have begun to change. Things are not the same. The combination of a deadly virus, inadequate planning and incompetent leadership will wreak havoc among Americans. But knowing them, they’ll vote for anything that matches their White House Pantone. Thinking about the hellscape that is, I give up. Washington has failed the leadership test and United States will no longer be seen as an international leader. Here’s to the land of freedom.
But hey, maybe it’s a matter of perspective, every crisis is an opportunity. On the bright side, I get to work from home and spend time doing the things that I used to enjoy that sometimes I forget to check my emails or text messages. On my free time, I learn new things too, like stream a class on The Art of Negotiation by a former FBI lead international kidnapping negotiator and watch some TV show that teaches you Shibari. Random stuff. Who knows someday it might be handy? Time to restart and recharge.
And on lonely rainy days, you’re on my mind.

Shit. Why can’t I stop thinking about you? That smile. In the words of Atticus, the kind of smile that would be cruel not to kiss, the kind of eyes that shone with the light. I can tell him all my dark secrets, the ugliest parts of my life, the things that I can’t even tell myself. He would still look at me like his greatest treasure, a masterpiece, always see the best of people. Always there for me at my lowest, telling me that everything will be alright.
The kind of person where you’ll automatically feel safe, feel happy, feel your best whenever you’re with him. You know, someone that motivates you, elevates you, inspires you. Someone I instantly click with so naturally; the connection was so strong that I have never experienced it with anyone before. The most rare, beautiful chemistry that I call fate.
He has never left my heart.
Even when we’re far apart, he will always gravitate back to me. Funny because, I let him go. No matter how many times we have said our goodbyes, I realise that, I can say goodbye to everyone else, but not him.
Don’t you get it?
Not YOU.
